Eastern Oregon provides senic wonders from the extreme to the sublime - From the grandeur of Hells Canyon to the amazing colors of the Painted Hills and the remnants of prehistoric creatures at the John Day Fossil Beds.
Hiking, horseback riding and llama trekking in the Eagle Cap Wilderness of the Wallowa Range is like being in the Swiss Alps. Rafting is a blast on the Snake, Owyhee and Grande Ronde rivers. Hang gliding is on the rise in Lakeview. Hart Mountain's National Antelope Refuge pays homage to the "Home on the Range" where the deer and the antelope play.
In much of this region, beef cattle greatly outnumber people. Wooly sheep have made Pendleton a household name and Hermiston and Ontario produce mountains of potatoes, onions and wheat. In between, the fertile Grande Ronde Valley produces everything from cherries to peppermint.
The Baker County area is rich in gold mining and Oregon Trail history, Chief Joseph Days in the town of Joseph commemorate the Nez Perce leader and of course the Pendleton Round-Up is America's Classic Rodeo.
